Frank Hesson had operated a mobile business for three years before noticing a caboose at the Train Wreck Distillery.
He now rents the space from there distillery and called it Home Slice Pizza. This spring, Hesson plans to add park benches for customers to eat outdoors.
"The caboose is the kitchen," Hesson told Daily Voice. There's a walk-up window to order food.
The caboose, measuring 13 by 22 feet, is located at 21 Madison Ave.
The shop is open at the same hours as the Train Wreck Distillery which is right next door. "So patrons can walk over, order, then go back to eat," Hesson said.
The shop is open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday; 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Friday; 4 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Saturday; and 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday. It's closed on Monday and Tuesday.
The menu offers a variety of pies, plus the option to create your own pizza. It includes appetizers such as its wood-fired wings and wood-fired Caesar salad, sandwiches like meatball parmigiana and desserts including chocolate-covered cannolis.
